The tour for the auction of late King of Pop Michael Jackson‘s costumes has begun. The tour kicked off on Friday, May 18, 2012.
The auction is starting in Santiago, China and will travel to the U.S, Europe and South America.
The tour, organized by celebrity auctioneer, Darren Julien, will exhibit about a hundred of Jackson’s most popular outfits, before their eventual grand sale to the highest bidders in December.
Part of the items to be auctioned includes his crystal gloves, the black spandex outfit from his ‘Scream‘ video and the breakaway suit he wore during his BAD Tour. Also on the list are his gold belts, wrist-watches, jackets used for his ‘Beat It‘ and ‘Bad‘ performances, his 1993 Super Bowl costume, as well as all of his Michael Bush and Dennis Tompkins’ designed outfits, most of which have his signature.
According to a spokesperson from the auction house, ‘There is no doubt that Michael Jackson was a global fashion icon as well as award winning and beloved musician. His wardrobe dictated many of the styles throughout the last few decades. Jackson played a very intimate role in the designs and completion of every costume and piece of clothing he wore both on stage and in his personal life‘.
Proceeds from the auction will be donated towards Guide Dogs of America and the non-profit lodging, Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas.
The pop singer, who died in June 2009, was well known for his charitable activities as well as his musical career, which fetched him numerous awards and worldwide recognition.
