Meet Nigeria's top 10 Pop Music baby mamas

The Oxford English Dictionary defines ‘Baby Mama’ as ‘the mother of a man’s child, who is not his wife or (in most cases) his current or exclusive partner’. A baby mama (baby-mother) is generally defined as a mother who is not married to her child’s father although the term is often used with other meanings as well.

The ‘Baby-mama’ phenomenon is fast becoming an acceptable trend in Nigeria. With more women choosing to be ‘independent’, the trend is becoming quite common amongst celebrity women who seem to be (partially) cool with the status.

Here is NET’s rundown of Nigeira’s top Pop Music’s baby mamas and oh yea, 2face makes the list twice…

Anita and Paul Okoye

Beginning with the most recent baby-mama, Anita, she is the only girl that makes Paul of the group, Psquare ‘cry and laugh at the same time’. Until recently, the lovebirds were able to keep their relationship concealed from the public eye. The longtime girlfriend of Paul who is currently studying at the University of Dundee, Scotland, recently delivered their first child, Andre in the US and close sources say the couple may soon be walking down the aisle

Lola Omotayo and Peter Okoye

The fact that they now have two kids (Cameron and Aliona) between them has not pushed Lola Omotayo up from baby-mama to wifey status. Lola who is older than Peter seems not to be bothered by the several questions and talks about marriage as she has often insisted that ‘There is so much that completes a woman and marriage is not it.’ In a subtle effort to secure her man, Lola in recent times consciously makes sure she is always with her man whenever he goes to events.

Mimi Omoregbe  and Terry G

Terry G and Mimi have been dating for quite a while and November last year, they welcomed their first child. The UK-based Mimi and the ‘Akpo Master’ were also rumoured to have secretly tied the knot, although they both denied the reports. Mimi, on her own part, is doing everything possible to retain her status and position in the ‘House of Ginger’.

Barbara (Timaya)

Timaya and Barbara set off their romance in 2010 right after his controversial relationship with actress Empress Njamah. Sources say the ‘Egberipapa 1 of Bayelsa’ spoils Barbara with all the good things of life. For giving birth to their daughter, Emmanuella, Barbara got a brand new GL 450 Benz as a gift. Timaya may have truly found love in Barbara, but he doesn’t seem to be willing to take their relationship to the next level just yet as he once stated in an interview that he is not yet ready for marriage.

Adebola and Olowoporoku (May D)

Former protégé of Psquare, Akinmayokun Awodumila popularly known as May D is now enjoying the status of fatherhood thanks to his longtime girlfriend, Adebola. A rising model, Adebola and May D have been together for about four years and she even has a tattoo of May D’s name on her back to show for it.

Close sources tell us May D rented an apartment in Magodo for Adebola but doesn’t live with her, he stays in another Magodo residence, maybe because he wants to accommodate his many female visitors one of which has allegedly been SoundCity VJ Moet Abebe.

Bimbo Babatunde and Ice Prince Zamani

Bimbo was introduced to the world in 2012 after she delivered a baby boy for Chocolate City rapper, Ice Prince Zamani in March 2012. After several denials by the rapper, the child is now being loved and sometimes flaunted by the rapper. Since reports say that both Ice Prince and Bimbo were never officially dating when ‘it’ happened, it is certain that only the welfare of the baby links them together since the Choc Boi is now busy enjoying high profile celebrity relationships.

Sumbo Ajala (2face Idibia)

Despite birthing the first of the numerous children of the multi award winning singer, 2face Idibia, Sumbo Ajala was by-passed in the selection of the real life ’African Queen’. May be a little disappointing, Sumbo does not seem to be bothered by that as she has since gone on to establish a relationship with a certain Pastor Adeboye of the Royal Christian Centre where she is a member of the choir. Although uncomfirmed reports say that Sumbo and the pastor have tied the knots, no official statement has yet come from the couple or their reps.

Pero Adeniyi and 2face Idibia

Probably the most disappointing love story ever, Pero Adeniyi one of the baby mamas of 2face Idibia was sidestepped despite having the most children for the celebrated singer. For some reason, Pero kept having kids for the music icon even when marriage was not around the corner. She may not have gotten a ring out of the relationship, at least she has 3kids to show for it.

Ngohide Ruby Ann Gyanggyan and Jesse Jagz

Currently one of the signees of M.I’s Loopy Music under the name Ruby. This young talented vocalist and M.I’s brother, Jesse Jagz have a 7-year-old daughter between them. The two met way back in Jos and the rest as they say, is history. Although they do not date anymore, they both share responsibility for their daughter Jade.

Victoria Olubukola Goddis and 9ice

Following his crashed marriage with former wife, Toni Payne, singer 9ice hooked-up with an Abuja based lady by the name, Victoria Goddis. Following a long discreet romance, the light skinned lady gave the ‘Gongo Aso’ crooner a set of twins. It is no longer all rosy with the lovers as the relationship had long ended leaving Miss Goddis with an alternative adjective for description- ‘9ice’s baby-mama’.
