South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma has reassured the world that Nelson Mandela ‘looks well after a restful night’ following his sudden visit to the hospital.
Zuma doused the fear of many South Africans when he explained that there was no cause for alarm as Mandela was just admitted to the hospital on Saturday to undergo tests. ‘Mr Mandela needs medical attention “from time to time which is consistent with his age‘, he said in a statement.
The 94-year-old was taken from his home in the rural village of Qunu, in Eastern Cape province, to hospital in the capital on Saturday. It is being reported that some family members and his own foundation were initially unaware it had happened.
Mandela was last in hospital in February, when he underwent a minor procedure to investigate the causes of abdominal problem. And in January 2011 he was treated for a serious chest infection.
