Following the launch of plus-size Barbie dolls as inspired by the model and being the first plus-size model to cover Sports Illustrated, Ashley Graham has scored a new win after being the first plus-size model to cover Vogue magazine.
And according to the editor-in-chief of the magazine’s British edition, Alexandra Shulman, in her Editor’s Letter, some people ‘flatly refused’ to dress the super model.
Shulman added that they said Graham was way out of their sample size range, going on to thank the people at Coach – who were glad to dress a woman that’s not their standard model – for coming through in time for the ‘fairly last-minute’ shoot.

In Shulman’s words, ‘They [Coach] were enthusiastic about dressing a woman who is not a standard model, but sadly there were other houses that flatly refused to lend us their clothes.
‘It seems strange to me that while the rest of the world is desperate for fashion to embrace broader definitions of physical beauty, some of our most famous fashion brands appear to be travelling in the opposite – and, in my opinion, unwise – direction.’
With reality TV star Khloe Kardashian also championing the cause for women with ‘the real female body’, we may be seeing a shift in the fashion industry regarding accepted body shapes of models.

For Ashley Graham, it’s another win in what has been a remarkable 2016 for her.
Other than covering SI and having her own Barbie doll, the size-16 model was among those honoured at Glamour’s Women of the Year award in November.
