IT’s almost time for the MTV Africa Music Awards, and nominees are expressing their excitement for the upcoming show.
At a press conference held on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Federal Palace hotel in VI, Mafikizolo, May D, Burna Boy and Phyno all spoke to the media about their expectations.
May D, who was nominated alongside Mafikizolo for the best collaboration for the song ‘Happiness’ said:
‘I feel so excited about the MAMA awards and [being] nominated alongside Mafikizolo for the best collaboration; trust me, there is no competition.’
Meanwhile, South African group Mafikizolo, who have five nominations said they’re thankful for the recognition. ‘We are really honoured with the MTV MAMA Awards nominations, we have to be confident. Just like May D said, there is no competition.’
Nigerian artiste Burna Boy, who is up against indigenous rapper Phyno and South African act Uhuru, among others for best new act says his only competitor is Uhuru, while Phyno the playmaker seemed confident about his chances
‘I’m excited to be nominated for the MTV MAMA Awards,[and] I’m looking forward to bring the award home.’
The award will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC), South Africa.
