There had been rumours earlier on in the year that Darey’s new
materials will show the two different sides of the man Dare Art Alade.
And with the release, today, of the fresh singles off his forthcoming third solo album, ‘Don’t let me know’ and ‘The way you are’ , it is clear that this is the direction of the new album.
‘Our friends should expect to get a feel of world class Soul, R&B and a few pleasant surprises!’ Darey, who
co-produced the songs with Cobhams, says.
In an environment where there’s so much crime, confusion and crises, many are focusing on functional relationships to keep their sanity.
From work to school, neighbourhoods and family units, many are holding on to interpersonal bonds to help take their minds away from everyday issues. Darey’s music focuses on some of these relationships; weaving
lovable and atimes lovelorn lyrics on carefully, masterfully-created music that’ll pass the test anywhere in the world. His last album ‘un.DAREY.ted’, released in March 2009, received tremendous critical and commercial acclaim. Propelled by major hits like ‘Not The Girl’ and ‘No Stars’ and others, un.DAREY.ted remains a fan-favourite across
the continent – winning over a dozen local and international awards so far.
‘We’re nothing without love’ Darey says. ‘So I like to share life experiences with my music, using love, living, and learning’.
On ‘The way you are’, Darey advises the ladies to love who they are because “You’re a born star!” he says. With fun ad libs and a refrain that sticks from your first listen, the song’s message is simple: what matters most is who you are – not the fancy clothes you wear, kind of car your drive, or what people say. So why not learn to embrace who
you are?
The way you are will make you bump, nod and dance while provoking deep thoughts that stay with you long after you’ve pressed the stop button.
Don’t let me know is an ode to a lover who he can’t be with due to circumstances. It’s the story of a man in love who still sits around, thinking about the love that once was; wondering what the other person
is doing in their new found relationship. They love each other but yet circumstances keep them apart. He is asking a-thousand-and-one questions, yet wanting no answers. ‘Does he make you smile; giggle like a child? Does he keep you warm? Is he weak or is he strong? Where did we go wrong?’ Darey’s voice as usual is soaked in powerful
emotions; insisting all the while, that he wants no answers. Don’t let me know is the song for those who truly believe in the power of love.
Just like with ‘Not the girl’, Darey says he hopes Don’t let me know ‘will help us all look within and trust that true love will always overcome’
