Jurgen Klopp’s side defeated Pep Guardiola‘s Man City 1-0 at Anfield in their first EPL face off.
The pair met a total of eight times in Germany during a 2-year spell between 2013 and 2015. Guardiola’s Bayern dominated the matches in the Bundesliga, while Klopp’s Dortmund ruled the cup matches with four wins each.
Georginio Wijnaldum was the hero after nodding Adam Lallana’s cross pst City goalkeeper, Claudio Bravo eight minutes into the match.
‘We have to wake up because after this we have another game and we have to focus and work because we cannot think about this game. The second half of the league begins and we have to think about that,’ Guardiola said during his post match interview.
It’s a well-deserved win for Klopp whose rivalry with Pep Guardiola has ensued in England.
Liverpool and Man City are now second and third on EPL standings, respectively. Chelsea are on top by six points, while Arsenal sit fourth, two points behind Man City.
