Gospel singer Patty Obasi has passed away.
Obasi who had been battling a critical ailment – kidney failure for over a year had been recommended for a transplant but couldn’t travel because of lack of funds. NET gathered that Obasi need not less than N10m to replace his two failed kidneys in India.
He died in his Enugu residence on Friday, October 26, 2012, after he reportedly slipped into unconsciousness.
‘Brother died at his house this morning and his body had been deposited in the mortuary. He could not go for the kidney transplant in India as recommended by his doctor at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH, Enugu’, his sister told The Vanguard.
Obasi is popular for his album ‘Nwa Mammy Water’ which shot him into limelight.

I wish I had N10m, this man wouldn’t have died, it’s really a shame to our “christian” billionaires, if it was for trivialities, they would have donated such money, thank God for his life, His Gospel songs will continue to preach.

Rev patty obasi, was for me the only truly inspired gospel musician in Nigeria for a very long time. Long before gospel singing became popular among some clueless nigerian gospel artists who sang mainly for entertainment and monetary gains, obasi, with his sonorous voice, serenaded nigerians with the word of God, raw and direct. He exrayed the evils in society and sang about them, he didn’t mind stepping on powerful toes. He was passionate about what he sang and preached. He stood away from the mad crowd of gospel singers till death. Little wonder very little was done by his reverend colleagues, government and some billionaire fellow Christians to save his life. Heaven will reward you dear patty, r.i.p.
