One of the world’s most influential broadcasters, Lawrence Harvey Zeiger, widely known as Larry King died today – Saturday, January 23, 2021, at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles. He was 87 years old.
For 63 years across radio, TV and digital media, he interviewed approximately 50,000 people from all walks of life. From presidents and businessmen to inventors and spiritual mediums, he gave each person a channel to reach a larger audience. He was known for his gentle prodding questions that allowed guests on his shows to feel free to speak their true intentions.
He hosted CNN’s highest-rated, longest-running program, ‘Larry King Live’ for 25 years from 1985 to 2010. He interviewed every American president since Richard M. Nixon to date. He wrote dozens of books, guest-starred on TV shows, and was a source of admiration to many celebrities. He was married eight times to seven different women and had a whirlwind life. He is survived by his five children, nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Larry King was indeed an icon, a trailblazer by every meaning of the word, and a broadcasting legend. The world has lost a one-of-a-kind broadcaster, but the memories remain. Rest in peace Larry King.
