Scandal’s lead act Kerry Washington has received an Emmy nomination for her role in the ABC drama.
Washington was nominated in the category of ‘lead actress in a drama’ for her portrayal of Olivia Pope, a high-powered political strategist and soft-hearted incurable romantic, making her the first black actress to compete in the category since Cicely Tyson was nominated in 1995.
If she wins at the awards’ presentation in September, she will be the first black actress to have done so in the category since the award’s existence in 1949.
The 36-year old Django Unchained star who recently got married to football star Nnamdi Asomugha has described her nomination as ‘wonderful’.
