Kanye West was honoured at the art Institute of Chicago on Monday, May 11. The 37-year-old rapper received an honorary doctorate degree from the School of Art Institute of Chicago.
Kanye’s late mother, Dr. Dondra also worked in the English department before she retired. Kanye, who always had a scowl on his face could not be more happy as he was seen beaming with smile.
The rapper, whose first album was titled College Drop Out, is now officially to be known as Dr. Kanye. When he took to the podium, his first words were: ‘I am a pop artist, so my medium is public opinion, and the world is my canvas.’
He poked fun at the fact that he always gave his opinion freely and that opinion is something one should be unapologetic for.
He said: ‘I’m sorry’ is something that you can use a lot.’ ‘It gives you the opportunity to give your opinion, apologize for it, and give your opinion again,’ he then went on to say: ‘You should not be sorry for your opinions!’.
