Julius Agwu started his career in the entertainment industry as a stage actor based in Port Harcourt, and then went on to starring in multiple movies such as RattleSnake, End of the River, Lagos Boy, Turn, A Long Night, After Count, and more.
While Julius had the acting chops to thrive in the Nollywood business, he soon discovered his comedic talents which earned him rapid success in the industry. Julius’ creativity at the time was a breath of fresh air after he pioneered a new genre of music in Nigeria known as music-comedy, earning him plaudits and special recognition from the industry. He also produced popular comedy shows like Crack Ya Ribs, Laff 4 Christ’s Sake, and Festival of Love.
Julius always believed that comedy could take many forms, one of which was a pacifying nature. According to him, “Anything that makes people laugh is a welcome development. Comedy takes people’s minds off their worries and puts them in a relaxed state. Comedy can actually be used to curb violence and restiveness among youths in the country.”
Unfortunately slowed down by health complications, Julius’ career has taken a back seat in recent years. However, after a long and arduous fight, he beat the illness and revealed plans to make a long-awaited comeback this year.
As confirmed by Azuh Arinze, veteran journalist and his close confidante in his new book Encounters – Lessons From My Journalism Career, Julius is “one of the most hardworking and talented souls … he is rare and ever raring to go.”
