With the emergence of one of the most anticipated debut albums, Johnny Drille has cemented his sound, and it sounds like love.
When John Ighodaro, professionally known as Johnny Drille, released a cover of “Awww” by Di’Ja on January 29, 2015, he caught the attention of Mavin label boss, Don Jazzy. His debut self-produced single “Wait For Me” caught the attention of Nigerians and garnered over 7.4 million views on Youtube.
Over the years, Drille’s hit singles like “Romeo and Juliet”, “My Beautiful Love”, “Halleluyah” ft Simi, “Awa Love,” and more has slowly but surely grown a listening audience who seek a softer side of Nigerian music.
Since signing to Mavin Records in 2017, his career has gone even further. He won Best Alternative Song at the 2019 Headies for “Finding Efe”, and his live music shows for fans called Johnny’s Room Live continues to be a huge success.
After releasing singles like “Mystery Girl” and “Bad Dancer,” his much-awaited debut album, Before We Fall Asleep, was released on September 3, 2021. The 14-track album has features from Ladipoe, Ayra Starr, Don Jazzy, Chylde, Lagos Community Choir and Styl-Plus. The album speaks of love in its purest form – for friends, family, music and a woman close to his heart.
