Jesse Jackson Jr., Illinois Representative and son of the popular US civil rights activist Jesse Jackson has submitted his resignation from Congress following his absence since June.
Reports say the 47 year-old has been treating bipolar disorder.
Although he was re-elected in office earlier in November, many feel Jackson’s political career is close to the end.
He has reportedly been negotiating a plea deal with federal authorities for the alleged misuse of campaign funds to redecorate his home and purchase a Rolex watch, reports say.
He is also being investigated to see whether he participated in a “pay to play” scheme to win an appointment to the U.S. Senate seat Barack Obama vacated in 2008.
