US rappers Jay Z and Kanye West’s ‘Watch The Throne’ album has apparently broken the US iTunes Store’s one-week sales record as it moved nearly 290,000 download units.
The collaborative album from the Brooklyn rapper and Chicago native had been made exclusive to the digital online store from August 8, 2011 to August 11 before opening sales at digital hard copy retail shops on Friday, August 12, 2011.
‘Watch The Throne’ surpassed the previous highest selling album ‘Viva La Vida Or Death and All His Friends’ by UK alternative rock band Coldplay which sold 282,000 in its first week.
‘Watch the Throne’s overall first-week sales (digital and physical) will be released by information and sales tracking system Nielsen SoundScan.
The album features guest appearances from the likes of Beyonce, Frank Ocean, Mr Hudson and additional production credits from Don Jazzy, Wu-Tang producer RZA and hip-hop veteran Q-Tip.
