While receiving her award for Album of the Year, one of the biggest winners of the night, Adele, broke her plaque in two, presenting one half to her idol, Beyonce, who she says deserved the album more than her.
‘I can’t possibly accept this award, and I’m very humbled, I’m very grateful but the artiste of my life is Beyonce,’ she said tearfully.
‘The Lemonade album was just so monumental, Beyoncé. It was so monumental and well thought-out and beautiful and soul-bearing… we appreciate that. All of us artists here adore you. You are our light.’
The whole room, including Beyonce was in tears as they watched this special moment, many of them agreeing that Bey indeed deserved the title.
People likened the moment to the Mean Girls scene where Lindsay Lohan broke her crown into pieces, handing them to the other contestants.
