Burna Boy’s grandfather Benson Idonije attended the finale of his 80th birthday celebrations last Sunday June 19 at Freedom Park in Lagos.
Idonije’s birthday was a week-long festival. There were book launches and keynotes and singing and yabbis and tributes for Fela’s first manager and Nigeria’s most enduring music critic.
But Sunday’s celebration started with NECLive mini-series and was wrapped up with a concert headlined by Burna Boy.
In spite of the heavy rain, guests partied all night alongside Phyno, General Pype, Dede Mabiaku, ExTaSi band and Gloria Ibru with DJ Max Kendy who didn’t fail to impress with his old school melodies as they honour Fela’s first manager.
Others in attendance included Yeni Kuti, Soni Irabor, Tony Okoroji, Bisi Olatilo, Reuben Abati, Bose Ogulu, and Miatta Fanbuleh.
