The war between actresses – Clarion Chukwurah and Ibinabo Fiberesima is reaching a climax with the former stating the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria President is unfit to lead the association because of her past.
Chukwurah who has in the past few months used every opportunity with the press to blast the AGN President, recently told Punch Newspaper that since Ibinabo was once arrested and convicted for manslaughter she was ‘unfit’ to be the AGN boss.
Chukwurah said apart from not being educationally qualified, Ibinabo should have been disqualified from running for the AGN top position if the guild’s constitution was adhered to.
‘Item ‘U’ of the electoral guideline of AGN disqualified her. No convicted person can stand for election in any post. She was convicted for manslaughter and she was given a jail sentence which she served. Manslaughter has no option of fine. Her sentence was reduced from seven years to five years and we all know she went to jail‘, the actress told Nonye Ben-Nwankwo and Ademola Olonilua of Punch Newspaper.
Chukwurah also revealed that a court injunction stopping Ibinabo from parading herself as AGN president had already been filed.
‘…there is proof that she drove recklessly and caused the death of Dr. Sura Giwa contrary to the road traffic laws of Lagos State.’ She was drunk. How could this person be the face of AGN?‘, part of judgement allegedly reads.
The actress also says she’s ‘shocked’ that President Goodluck Jonathan recognized and welcomed her into Aso Rock when the AGN went visiting.
‘The president is supposed to be a symbol of the supremacy of the rule of law. He disregarded the law in recognising Ibinabo as president of AGN. The president is now saying there is no law in this country. So the AGN has become an ethnic grouping. This is a professional body of actors. It is not a Niger Delta solidarity platform‘, she lamented.
Speaking about Government house visiting, Chukwurah said Ibinabo went begging in the name of AGN official visits.
‘I have the data of every government house she has been to. No single chapter has seen a dime for running the guild. She went to Ondo State and she was given N500, 000. What chapter did she inaugurate in Ondo State? The guild wasn’t set up to go begging from one state government to another‘, she claimed.
Days earlier, Ibinabo released a statement in response to Chukwurah’s earlier berating, saying that she was only trying to destabilize the AGN.
