Winner of the recently concluded ‘MTN Project Fame West Africa season 4’, Monica Angel Ogah says she’s still surprised she won the talent show.
The young singer recently got chatting with Anita Aiyudu as she discussed her victory and expressed her gratitude for all the love and support shown to her throughout the competition.
Can you talk about your experience from when you entered into the Academy, in the Academy and the competition?
My experience in the MTN Project Fame West Africa season 4 competition has been exciting, challenging, educating, fun and emotional all at the same time. It’s very emotional when you watch people leave the academy. The journey was stressful but I think at the end of the day it is worth the experience because it is something I will never forget.
During the competition, did you at any point think you were going to be the winner of this year’s edition of PFWA 4?
When I started the competition, I didn’t know I was going to go far or even emerge winner because for one month, my music director was not satisfied with whatever I did. During rehearsals, he really stressed me but I didn’t know he was pushing to bring out the best in me and he did and for that, I am really grateful to him. I never thought I was going to come out as winner of Project Fame because I was going through a lot of stress and there were a lot of talented singers in the academy with me so it was very challenging but the stress eventually worked for me as I became comfortable later in the competition.
What were your thoughts before the final show?
Well, I was just relaxed all through that day, I wasn’t tensed at all. There is this thing about me that if something is about to happen, I get the feeling before it happens. I was being a coward at the time because I thought I was going to be the first runner up so all I kept saying to myself was they should just give me money and car and let me go home so I can have peace of mind. I just wanted to do whatever I wanted, do my song whenever, come out with my album when I want because I love taking my time with whatever I plan to do.
What was your reaction when you won?
When I heard my name as winner of PFWA 4, the first thing I did was I took off my shoes and put them on my head! Ordinarily I wouldn’t do that but I was not myself. I wasn’t in that place at that time, I was speechless. It’s actually funny to me when I think of it now because at that point, I did not know what I was going to do. Even till now I still can’t believe it and I don’t know when am going to wake up to the reality that I’m actually the winner of MTN Project Fame, Season four. But in all, it was a sweet experience.
Now that you have joined the league of PFWA winners, should we expect something from you very soon?
I have a policy that everywhere I go, I must leave a mark, and footprints that people can look back and remember that I visited that place. I hope I would be able to leave a lasting impression with my music career and also touch lives with what God has blessed me with. I plan to entertain people and make them happy at the same time with relevant messages I plan to pass across. Everyone should expect something good from me soon. I want to thank my fans who believed in me and brought me this far, I will not let them down. I am not going to tell you that I’m going to do different things but I know it is going to come as a surprise to everyone so just watch out for me!
