The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards is perhaps the biggest awards event in Nigeria. It’s often described as Nigeria’s Oscars, and the red carpet is just as much of a big deal as the show itself – if not bigger. It’s little wonder then that the stars leave no stone unturned when it comes to their red carpet looks.

Ahead of this year’s edition which takes place on March 14, we asked a few of our favourite red carpet stars for tips on getting ready for the big night. We also went digging in our archives for tips a few of them had shared in the past.
From their pre-red carpet routine to their go-to designers and more, read all their secrets to smashing their red carpet appearances below.
Toke Makinwa

Q: What are your 3 go-to beauty tips for AMVCA
- Clean Makeup. For a huge event like the AMVCA’s the cleaner the makeup lines the better. If the eyes are slightly heavy, the lips have to be light and vice versa, blushes are welcomed as you’ll be smiling a lot and the right shade gives your face a healthy boost. I love Nude lipsticks, my fav has to be the lip magic from TokeMakinwa beauty. Avoid too many colors on the eyes, if not properly blended it can be a disaster.
- The right color/shade of dress that suits your body type/Skin color. Knowing what color really makes you pop, dressing your size is important too. I try to stay away from whites cos the event is mostly televised and if white is not tailored properly it can tend to look bridal. Colors that soften your eyes, accentuate your facial structure and colors that catch the light are always welcomed.
- The right pair of shoes. I think a lot of people can overlook the perfect pair of shoes cos the dresses can sometimes cover them but throwing on the perfect shoes helps your body posture when posing for pictures, walking down the red carpets or even walking up on stage to receive an award. I opt for sandals mostly cos they make your calf look slimmer and legs longer, if you have to hold up the train or your dress it’s nice to have happy feet in perfect shoes.
