It’s just a few days until the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, or Emmys, set for Monday, September 15, 2025. Often described as television’s biggest night, the Emmys celebrate outstanding achievements in television (cable, broadcast, and streaming), honoring shows that aired between June 2024 and May 2025.
Dominating this year’s nominations is acclaimed fan and critic favorite, dystopian corporate drama Severance, Apple TV+’s hit show with 27 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor.
Close behind is The Penguin, HBO Max’s spinoff of the 2022 film The Batman, charting The Penguin’s rise through Gotham’s criminal underworld following the movie’s events, with 24 nominations. The Studio, another Apple TV+ series, a darkly comic satire of showbusiness, is also a top contender, earning 23 nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series and making history by surpassing Ted Lasso’s 20 nominations in 2021 as the most-nominated freshman comedy series.
Although the Emmys are very much a Hollywood affair, being American awards centered on American television, Nigerian audiences can still root for the shows we stream, celebrate their wins, and revel in the recognition of the stories we love, from thrillers to comedies to prestige dramas.
The live ceremony will air at 1 AM WAT on M-Net (DStv Channel 101), with a primetime rebroadcast at 8 PM WAT the same day. If you miss it, you can catch up on DStv Stream or relive the highlights on Showmax, from red carpet glamour and audience and celebrity reactions to surprise wins.
