Roger Federer has defeated Andy Murray to win his seventh Wimbledon championship and claim his first major title in two-and-a-half years.
Federer defeated Scotland’s Andy Murray 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-3 to reclaim the world’s No. 1 ranking on Sunday night, July 8, spoiling a celebration Britain had waited 76 years to stage.
Murray was attempting to become the first British man to win Wimbledon since 1936, when Fred Perry won the last of his three titles.
By winning last night the Swiss earned his 17th major title. No men’s player active or retired has more than 14.
