Speaking with NET recently, the Baseline Music boss disclosed what they did in making Skales one of the biggest acts in recent times and how his fan base grew naturally.
‘When he (Skales) came, I listened to his music because when I listen to music, I don’t listen to what everybody listens to, I just knew it will be a hit and so I started promoting it,’ Howie T said in an exclusive interview.
On Skales’ fan base, Howie T reveals, ‘we grew his fan base organically, we had an online competition which was eventually won by somebody from the US but a lot of people participated and that was when he started growing his fan base. Now we are seeing the result, fans are downloading his songs, people like them and people like him and we thank God for that.’
Howie T is also reputed for discovering Africa’s celebrated pop duo, Psquare after they won the Benson and Hedges ‘Grab da Mic’ contest in 2001. He was also their first manager and has previously founded entertainment companies including Adrot Nigeria Limited and Kiss (an entertainment franchise).
Skales joined Baseline in July 2014 and it has been a success story with his debut album, ‘Man of the Year’ regarded as one of the biggest albums of 2015.
