The Nigerian media industry today has been thrown into mourning following the sad loss of one of its veteran and most recognisable practitioners, Dimgba Igwe, whose death was confirmed a few hours ago.
Igwe died as a result of fatal injuries he sustained when he was knocked down early this morning while carrying out his jogging session for the day.
According to an official statement posted on the website of The Sun Newspapers where he was vice chairman, ‘The Sun Vice Chairman, Pastor Dimgba Igwe was this morning knocked down by a vehicle while jogging around his residence in the Okota area of Lagos. Mr. Igwe sustained a fatal injury and was immediately taken to the hospital where he underwent surgical emergency, and died afterwards. The Chairman of the Sun Publishing Limited Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu was shocked by the incident and described the day as the darkest day in the history of the organization.’
Until his death, Dimgba Igwe was a respected journalist with over 30 years experience as a publisher, author, biographer and pastor. He was part of the success story of some hugely successful newspaper houses including the defunct Weekend Concord, The Sun and was the co-publisher of Entertainment Express along with his friend and professional soulmate, Mike Awoyinfa.
