Kingdom Kroseide has emerged as the winner of Nigerian Idol season 6. After 10 weeks of intense live shows, Kingdom beat 10 other contestants to win the N50 million grand prize this season.
On Sunday, March 28, 2021, Kingdom was introduced to the world on the Nigerian Idol stage. He brought Seyi Shay, who was the toughest judge to please, to tears with his rendition of I Look To You. He quickly became a topic of discussion on social media and one of the judges’ favourites.
Even before the live show began, Kingdom had captivated the show’s audience. He quickly became one of the show’s favourites with his final audition performance of Christina Aguillera’s Say Something. Kingdom was more than meets the eyes, and everyone could see it.
By the end of the first live show, he became one of the most liked, respected and talked-about contestants of the season. His social media was snowballing. He has gotten over 36,000 followers since the show began.
By the end of the first month, he had more and more people talking about him. He had fans rooting for him, voting for him, and praying he’ll take home the ‘Nigerian Idol’ coveted title. He gave fire performances back to back, proving how talented he was, and stealing hearts with his soulful voice.
From the auditions till his final performance on the show, Kingdom never had a lousy singing day. He always brought the vocals and all the emotions the songs had with his performances. Where there may not have been the most charismatic stage performance on a live show, he more than made up for it with vocal dexterity.
That was until he took on Fela’s Gentleman at the top 6 reveal, and he killed the performance. He seemed to get an immediate confidence boost. Even the judges could tell something had changed in his stage presence after that incredible performance. Kingdom had been reborn by Fela’s baptism of fire, and he was ready to go toe to toe with the top 5.
For Kingdom, the challenge was finding a way to stand out amidst the talented top 5. They could all clearly sing their hearts out, but acts like Akunna, Faith Jason, and Francis Atela had established themselves as outstanding performers too. Kingdom rose to the occasion showing an entirely new side to himself at the top 5 reveal. His performance of Feeling Good was like watching a different version of the 24-year-old. He owned the stage, brought the vocals, and had the judges up in a standing ovation. All in a day’s work.
By the top 4 reveal, Kingdom had really come into his own, proving he was ready to be at the finals. His performance of Holy Spirit had DJ Sose up and dancing by the second note as the other judges watched him in awe. His second performance for the night, It Is A Man’s World took things a notch higher. He gave the judges goosebumps so much that they couldn’t sit throughout the performance. Guest judge, Praiz looked at him like he watched a god and showered him with praises after the performance.
Celebrity guest judge Cobhams Asuquo challenged Kingdom to sing better after he finished his Timi Dakolo’s Iyawo Mi performance at the top 3 reveal. By all intents and purposes, the singer had given yet another stunning performance. However, Cobhams was sure he could still do better. He took Cobhams’ words into his second performance of How Deep Is Your Love and blew it out of the water. Obi Asika, who liked to keep his comments short and meaningful, was waxing lyrical at the end. Even Cobhams couldn’t sit still, and Kingdom proved yet again that he deserved the title.
Going into the semi-finale, Kingdom switched things up, proving there are several layers to the multi-talented artiste. He put his unique spin on Bruno Mars’ Just The Way You Are with some poetry at the start and even an uncharacteristic dance move. He looked like a proper pop star. He took on The Lion Sleeps Tonight again and showed just how much he’d grown since his first live performance. That night, he cemented his place as the winner, and we just had to wait to hear the host, IK Osakioduwa, say it the following Sunday.
At the final show, he proved yet again that he deserved to be the crowned winner of Nigerian Idol. He brought all the energy to his performance of Fela’s Gentleman, became the soulful R&B singer fans love for his duet of One Hit with Cobhams Asuquo, and ended the season with an emotional rendition of Timi Dakolo’s Iyawo Mi.
Then at the end of the season on Sunday, July 11, 2021, IK announced that Kingdom had won Nigerian Idol season 6. He gets to walk away with the N30 million naira cash prize, a brand new SUV, two international trips, a variety of Tecno Mobile products, a customised Bigi fridge and one year supply of drinks.
Kingdom went from being an obscure albeit talented singer with barely any recordings to his name to becoming a millionaire with thousands of fans in 10 weeks of live shows, all thanks to Nigerian Idol and MultiChoice.
