An 11-year-old girl whose name was undisclosed is undergoing treatment from a shark attack that happened while she was on vacation in the Spanish Mediterranean.
The attack occurred off Grao de Moncofa, a hotspot for British tourists just south of Benicassim and it left the girl with deep wounds on her left foot.
The girl was swimming in the water when witnesses reported hearing screams, this prompted a life guard to jump in and rescue her.
After stopping the bleeding from the foot, she was rushed to the nearest medical centre according to local reports.
It was from observations at the centre that it was believed the shark that attacked her was probably small.
Vacationers were then advised to avoid the area, but a full scale evacuation wasn’t enforced because the creature wasn’t seen.
Reports also suggest that this is the first time in a decade that a shark attack has occurred there.
