With only a day to go, 2Baba has added to an already star-studded line-up at his concert Buckwyld n Breathless: Power of 1. With Falz and Phyno joining Nollywood great Richard Mofe-Damijo, highlife legend Bright Chimezie has been announced as a performer as well.
Popular for his Zigima Sound (a fusion of Igbo and highlife) in the 1980’s, Bright Chimezie is one of the greats of the highlife genre. Originally from Anambra, his stardom brought him all the way to Lagos where he was peers with other singers of that era such as Mike Okri, Ras Kimono and others.
It’s not the first time 2Baba will collaborate with veteran Nigerian musicians: he has duets with highlife maestros Victor Olaiya and Victor Uwaifo in the past. He has also shared the stage with Majek Fashek, with whom he recorded No More Sorrow, a re-make of Majek’s classic Holy Spirit. Bright Chimezie will fit right in with a younger generation interested in classics.
Buckwyld n Breathless: Power of 1 kicks off at 7 pm at Eko Hotel Convention Centre, Victoria Island Lagos tomorrow October 20 2018.
