After seven years of waiting for another Headies Awards, Adekunle Gold was named Songwriter of The Year at the 15th Headies Awards held in Atlanta, United States, on Sunday, September 4, 2022.
He won the award for his song ‘Sinner’ ft American singer – Lucky Daye and produced by Blaize Beatz. Adekunle Gold was nominated alongside Ajebo Hustlers, Brymo, Falana, Fireboy DML, Omah Lay.
That songwriter of the year award, given in recognition of the written excellence of songwriting, is one of the non-voting categories.
His first Headies was in 2015 with his first single ‘Sade’. The song won the 2015 Headies Awards for ‘Best Alternative Song’, and since then Adekunle Gold had been snubbed at the Headies for four years in a row. At the last edition in 2021, Adekunle Gold didn’t take home any award despite getting three nominations.
