
According to the organisers of the Headies, the year under review is between July 2014 and June 2015. Some of these omitted names actually did drop some pretty impressive materials within this period, but failed to make the nominees list.
Below, we examine all the omitted pop stars, how they’ve fared and the materials they’ve released in the year under review…
Ice Prince: His only claim to nomination at this year’s Headies comes in Ill Bliss‘ ‘Bank Alert‘ (remix) Feat. Ice Prince, Eva Alordiah and Phyno nominated in the Lyricist on the Roll category. However, in the year under review, Ice Prince has featured on 43 collaborations, he’s released over 6 singles of his own as well as dropping his ‘Thrash Can’ EP in January 2015, but somehow he’s not nominated in any category.
Tiwa Savage: Like Ice Prince, Mavin first lady, Tiwa Savage can lay a claim to a Headies nomination via Solidstar’s Baby Jollof which features her and got nominated in the Best Video Category. Despite been away almost all year due to her pregnancy, Tiwa Savage managed to feature on 15 songs, and dropped 3 songs of her own.
D’banj: The kokomaster celebrates his 10th year anniversary this year, and so far in the year under review, he has 8 songs and featured on 3 other songs.
Wande Coal: In the year under review, Black Diamond Entertainment boss, Wande Coal boasts of 5 songs and he featured on 4 songs.
D’Prince: Mavin superstar, D’prince managed to drop 4 songs in the year under review including ‘OYO’ and ‘Oga Titus’.
Omawumi: Understandably, Omawumi was away almost all year as she welcomed her second child a few weeks back.
Dr Sid: In the year under review, Dr Sid got married and became a father too. He however dropped a couple of popular songs including ‘Ogbono’ remix featuring Olamide, ‘Oyari’ featuring Tiwa Savage and he also featured on Ugandan star, Navio’s ‘Work it’.
Oritsefemi: At the 2014 Headies, Oritsefemi won the Best Street Hop award, but this year despite dropping an album and over 15 collaborations in the year under review, he didn’t get lucky with a nomination.
Sean Tizzle: In 2013, he won the coveted Next Rated award smiling home with a car, last year, he won Best R ‘n’ B Pop Album with his first album ‘The Journey’. He’s however not lucky enough to grab a nomination this year.
Phyno: He clearly ranks among the most consistent Indigenous rapper in the year under review, but he didn’t make it with any nomination at the Headies this year despite dropping songs like ‘Asai‘, ‘Nnunu’ and others.
Sound Sultan: with songs like ‘Ishe’ featuring Sarkodie, Everything is Everything, Dem Go Laugh featuring Patoranking, Naija Ninjas head huncho, Sound Sultan didn’t get lucky enough to grab a nomination at the 2015 Headies.
