‘Essence’ by Wizkid featuring Tems has won the song of the year at the 2022 edition of the Headies award.
The 15th edition of the Nigerian music awards took place at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta in Georgia.
Described as the song of the summer, Essence was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Global Music Performance in April 2022. It however won the best collaboration at the BET awards making Wizkid the most awarded Nigerian.
Since its release in April 2021 from Wizkid’s fourth studio album ‘Made in Lagos’, ‘Essence’ has continued to break records across the world. It is the first Nigerian song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard Global 200.
Essence by Wizkid feat Tems won in a highly contested category that also included “Celebrate Me” by Patoranking, “Doings’ by Flavour Feat. Phyno, “High” by Adekunle Gold Feat. Davido, “Monalisa” by Lojay & Sarz and “Peru” – Fireboy Dml
It was the third award won by Essence after winning in the R&B and best collaboration categories.
