After three seasons filled with betrayal, manipulation, and drama, and a public statement that the beloved telenovela was concluded, Wura is set to return for a fourth season on Africa Magic on March 30.
Fans of the Showmax Original were surprised by the announcement, as Season 3 had been billed as the finale with a nice and tidy conclusion to the story.
Speaking with journalists ahead of the show’s comeback, head writer Jeffrey Musa explained why the series is returning and why he felt the story still had more to tell.

Musa explained that Wura is an adaptation of the South African telenovela The River, which spans six seasons and over 1,500 episodes.
“Season 3 was announced as the finale, but we still had more material from the South African original to adapt,” he said.
Jeffrey Musa explained that it became important to continue Wura, especially because many fans were unhappy about the show ending.
Viewers didn’t feel they had closure for Wura, Tumi, and other key storylines, and they felt that certain parts of the story could have been handled better. Continuing the series, he said, gives the creators a chance to address those gaps and fully explore the characters’ journeys.
“The new season gives us a reset, a chance to fix things we didn’t have a chance to do in Season 3 and give our audience some catharsis,” Musa continued.
He emphasised that Season 4 would dive deeper into the characters’ journeys, offering fans a continuation that honours their connection to the show. He concluded with “From my perspective, that is why we have Season 4.”
