The announcement of Gulder Ultimate Search comeback had fans of the show queuing up to the auditions eager to fight for a spot on the show.
If you’re one of these zealous fans, here are skills you should have or brush up on in preparation for this season’s ‘Age of Craftsmanship’
1. Creating Fire
The first thing the jungle does is strip away all the comfort you enjoyed outside the show. One of such luxuries you won’t have on the show is your gas or electric cooker. You’re going back to basics where you’ll need to be able to kindle a proper fire using dry wood, sticks and leaves provided by the jungle to make your meals and keep you warm.
2. Making Shelter
If you’ve never gone camping outdoors you may find it difficult to live outside the protective walls of your home. A shelter is necessary to shield you from the elements and keep you out of harm’s way. Knowing how to set up a proper shelter using materials provided, ropes and poles will come in very handy on the show. A well erected shelter may be the only thing standing between you and the harsh cold night, insects and even rain.
3. Hunting and Foraging
You’ve never needed to go out hunting or foraging for food. Not since you could easily have them delivered to you from the comfort of your home, or find them sorted and processed on a shelf in the market for your purchase. While basic cooking materials and produce will be provided, it is up to you to take advantage of the surplus the jungle has to offer. But be mindful when foraging not to pick at poisonous plants, mushrooms and other inedible plants.
4. First Aid
It’s almost inevitable to live in the wild and not sustain some form of injury. Be it a bruise, a burn or a broken ankle. It is imperative you know what to do in case of emergencies, at least before professional help arrives. First aid goes beyond medicines and bandages. Some crises require you to take proper breathing exercises to remain calm and endure while treatment is being administered.
5. Navigation
A treasure hunt is not complete without a map and a compass. If you’ve never seen or used a compass before, now is the time to practice your navigation skills. These days you can find digital compasses in watches and mobile phones. So being able to read a map while handling a compass pointing due north will certainly help you reach the treasure you seek and ensure you don’t get lost.
