Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, has described the death of Vice Chairman and pioneer Deputy Managing Director of The Sun publishing Limited, Mr Dimgba Igwe as ‘shocking, tragic and a colossal loss to the pen profession, the literary world and the Nigeria as a whole.’
Reacting to the news of the death of the Associate Publisher of Entertainment Express Newspaper today, Governor Mimiko, in a statement issued by the Ondo State Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade, said ‘the columnist of repute bestrode the journalism profession as a colossus, winning many professional awards and distinguishing himself as a worthy practitioner of the Fourth Estate.’
According to Mimiko, the late Journalist took his job as his passion and his passion as his job.
The governor expressed the condolences and sympathy of the people and government of Ondo State to the bereaved family of Igwe, publisher of the Sun Newspapers, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu as well as the management and the entire staff of The Sun Newspapers and Entertainment Express.
On his own, veteran columnist and publisher of Ovation magazine, Dele Momodu has paid tribute to Igwe, writing: ‘I’ve never seen two friends like these duo; never knew two bosses like them; I earned multiple promotions thru both at Weekend Concord in matter of months: Editor Mike Awoyinfa, Deputy Editor Dimgba Igwe, News Editor Dele Momodu, in that other (1989-1990) Rest in Peace Dimgba Igwe…’
