Gospel singer and evangelist Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, has died. She passed away on January 12, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos, Nigeria, after a period of illness.

Her death was announced on Tuesday via Instagram by fellow gospel singer Ayo Melody on behalf of her family. The announcement confirmed her passing and requested prayers for her loved ones.
Born Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye on November 19, 1979, in Lagos State, she was a prominent figure in Nigerian gospel music. She gained widespread recognition for the song Omije Ojumi, which became popular in churches and Christian homes across the country and earned her the stage name by which she became widely known.
Before pursuing music full time, Akinnaanu worked in the Nigerian banking sector for about a decade. She was also a graduate of English Language from Redeemer’s University, Ede. In addition to Omije Ojumi, she released other gospel songs including O Ti Sure, Testimony, and Otimurewa.
In late 2025, public concern grew over her health after videos surfaced showing her seeking prayers for a leg complication during a church service in Ibadan. The exact cause of her death has not been disclosed.
Tributes have continued to pour in from members of the gospel music community and fans, many of whom remember her for her emotionally resonant worship songs and commitment to ministry.
