The death of actor Ashley Nwosu has left tears in the eyes and sorrow in the hearts of not just his Nollywood colleagues but also his many fans who have watched him act in so many movies, counting them might just seem impossible.
As Nigerian Entertainment Today (NET) gathered, Nwosu, 58 years had been ill for quite some time. Prior to his death, word had gone around about his illness as Nollywood actors had implored many to pray for his speedy recovery. But at 9:45AM today, Thursday, April 21, 2011, he gave up the ghost at the Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Yaba, Lagos.
Many have started pouring their hearts out as they mourn the long-serving Nollywood actor. People have taken to the Social Networks (Facebook and Twitter) as usual to show grief and mourn the loss of a great actor.
‘He’s someone I’m going to miss very much. He sacrificed much part of his life for this work and the sad thing is that he’s not going to see the industry paying back for all the kind efforts, suffering, sleepless nights, sleeping outside the home that he has put into the work. And my heart goes out to the family’, actor Desmond Elliot sadly tells Nigerian Entertainment Today.
When Nigerian Entertainment Today made a visit to his residence at 11, Transit Village 1, Ikoyi, Lagos, the place looked deserted as no one was at home, but upon asking a few neighbours, they confirmed that it is the Nwosu’s residence. A black Mercedes Benz 190 with license number AZ 364–RBC, supposedly Nwosu’s car was parked directly opposite the building. A neighbour later confirmed that it was his.
‘He would always smile anytime I greeted him. He was a cheerful man and it’s a pity he’s gone’, a neighbour who prefers to remain anonymous tells us.
When our reporter approached a security guard who stayed in the next street, he lamented and disclosed to us how the actor drank and smoked excessively. ‘He hardly stayed at home; he was probably here two times a week. It’s a pity he has to go like this, he was a nice man’, the guard lamented.
Other Nollywood colleagues including Mercy Johnson, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and Genevieve promised to get back to us when Nigerian Entertainment Today contacted them for their reaction on Nwosu’s death.
But no word yet from them as at press time. The Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN) was also yet to issue a statement.

it’s a painful thing to loss someone dear but i know God who created us has a better plan for us.
my questions is:why are stars felling apart?we have lost Four talented stars in the Negeria Entertainment Industry within four month this year.why do bad thing happen to good people?i think Nigerians need to fast and pray seriously for our Entertainment Industry and for one another.

it i s sad though but we all have to take it the way it comes.i always tell people that death is not what matters it is where you end up that matters most. i pray for the family of the deceased that God in his infinite grace, grant the fortitude to bear.
it was like in a dream world when it was announced on tv lastnite about the death of Ashley Nwosu, i nevr believed it not until i browsd and saw d same thing. I will miss him so much. May his gentle soul rest in d bossom of the Lord, AMEN…

Its so unfortunate to hear about his death.its a big blow to the nation and the entertainment industry.
It is true that a tree cannot make a forest, yet there are trees which presence adds beauty to the forest and which uprooting removes the beauty of the forest. There may be many good actors, howbeit, there can never be another Ashley Nwosu. A vacuum for sure has been created by the demise of this rare gem.
