Brazil football legend, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, popularly known around the world as Pele will be among prominent figures at the commissioning event of the all-new ultra-modern International Stadium in Akwa Ibom State today.
The newly built 30,o0o capacity stadium, which has similarities with Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena, will be officially commissioned today, Friday, November 7, 2014, with a ceremonial friendly match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Black stars of Ghana.
According to reports, Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan is also scheduled to be in attendance along with top football icons.
Pele is a retired Brazilian footballer who is widely regarded to be the greatest football player of all time having scoring 541 league goals in his career. In fact, in total, Pelé is believed to have scored 1,281 goals in 1,363 games in his football career including unofficial matches.
He retired from the game as far back as 1977 but the respect he commands has not waned in any way and he is seen at several footballing events across the globe.
