- Odelugo, Flavour and his manager when the going was good
Denying all allegations leveled against him by his record label, Badbeats Records, highlife/pop singer, Chinedu Okoli a.k.a Flavour opened up to Nigerian Entertainment Today (NET) on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 in a telephone conversation.
The singer told our reporter ‘I have not been signed and there was no money involved. They gave me an apartment with no furniture. I bought my own car and I have moved to my own N3.5 Million Duplex in Festac… My current album is marketed by Obaino. A new album is supposed to seal the deal with them. And besides, I only met Mr. Obiagwu during a US performance and only signed a Memorandum of Understanding (M.O.U). The so-called partner (Mr. Ike Odelugo) is just playing rogue’.
On the other hand, Badbeats Records insisted they are ending their three-year contract deal because of Flavour’s nonchalant attitude towards the terms, during a yet-to-be-aired interview with New Live Beats, one of the co-owners, Anderson Obiagwu accused the highlife/pop star of disregarding the contract as a mere piece of paper. He stated, ‘He cancel shows that had earlier been scheduled by the label to perform at self-profiting unscheduled shows. He features in several collaborations and puts up appearances in music videos by other artistes’ at the expense of his own projects without proper consultation and approval by the Badbeats Records management… Flavour once went to perform in 3 shows in Sierra Leone and failed to meet up with a visa appointment at the Canadian embassy for a show we had arranged for him in Canada’.
And to back their claim of having a contract agreement with the artiste, Badbeats Records released a copy of the signed contract to us. Documents which carry Flavour’s signature as well as that of the label execs, signed on Tuesday, January 2nd, 2011. A fine of N300 Million for violation of any part of the terms and conditions was stated in the contract.
We’re waiting to see which of the feuding parties will head to court first…

Well the two parties hav claims….if the Record label did not meet up with their promises to the Artiste….then its nt d artiste fault…..flavour s already a big shot..he can survive with or without a label soooO they should free hiM….and look for upcoming artiste who they will nurture in their own way…..that’s all!!!!
i think he has the right to disregard them if they have not regarded their part of the contract.
Well, I think something is fishy, why was Flavour eager to sign a record deal in the first place, from what I gathered, this deal was signed in January this year and in June, the artist is fed up, I really think the artist is backing out for reasons best known to him. He should come out clean, at least for his fans. By the way a 300 Naira suit is ridiculous.
flavour u got al u want,so neva mind what wil let u down ok.
flavour should have a round table talk with his management and settle the matter out of court, if not he will be the one to pay his management the stated fine. Cos from all indications, the management have strong and genuine evidence that the said artist have sign an agreement not a memorandom of understanding as he so called it. This will equaly add up to his musical carrear, he should not allow the fame to take over his intergrity for the game.
