With the nomination announcement for the 14th edition of The Headies, Fireboy Leads the nomination table in 8 categories including the much-coveted ‘Album of The Year’ and ‘Recording of The Year’ categories.
The Headies is the most prestigious music award that recognises creativity and celebrates excellence in Nigeria. Spanning 25 voting and non-voting categories, this year, Fireboy is leading the table with the highest nominations totalling eight for ‘Recording of the Year’, ‘Best R&B Album, ‘Best Pop Album’, ‘Best Music Video’, ‘Best R&B Single’, ‘Album of the Year’, ‘Headies Viewers Choice and ‘Songwriter of the Year’.
Many are not surprised because Fireboy has released phenomenal music this past year from the release of his debut album ‘Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps’ in 2019 to his sophomore album ‘Apollo’ released in 2020. Both were received with critical acclaim and much love from the public.
Just last year, Fireboy had only four nominations at The Headies including ‘Next Rated’ category. Unfortunately, he walked home with no awards. Maybe this year will be pivotal and see him bringing home not just one, but multiple awards.
Davido follows the lead with seven nominations including ‘Songwriter of the Year’, ‘Artiste of the Year’ and ‘Song of the Year’. This year also has Burna Boy, Wizkid and Wurld tied at six nominations each seeing Burna and Wurld sharing categories likes ‘Songwriter of the Year’ and ‘Recording of The Year’.
Simi receives five nominations while newcomers, Chike and Omah Lay receive four nominations each. You can see the full list of nominations here.
The 14th Edition of The Headies reviews music records and works within July 2019 to September 2020 period and we must say, artistes, writer and video directors really brought their A-game. Maybe the lockdown inspired a lot of creativity. Good luck to all the nominees!
