At the moment, Nigerian rappers, Olamide, Vector, MI Abaga, Ycee, Mode 9 and others are all trending topics on social media.
MI Abaga is partly trending because of his newly released mixtape ‘Illegal Music 3’, while others came in courtesy of a Twitter poll by ID Africa, a digital marketing agency that asked the question, ‘Who is the best Nigerian #Rap artiste – Olamide, MI, Mode 9, Jesse Jagz?’.
Below is how Nigerians on social media reacted to the question
I know money is everything in this country and generation. But if you compare Mode 9 and Olamide in whatever context, you are mad.

Vic o is Trending at the same time with J.Cole,Olamide,Mode 9,Vector and Jesse Jagz,Wonders Shall Never End.

I asked my kid brother between MI & Olamide who is better. He replied MI is CHAIRMAN. For me I will say MI is English,Olamide is Indigenous.
— Linus (@linusNoni) March 1, 2016
When Olamide drops an album. He’s better than M.I and when M.I drops an album. He is better than olamide. We fanz self
— Babs (@sulubabs) March 1, 2016
How are you going to argue against Olamide for instance? What will you say is your metric? What empirical evidence will you use?
— JJ. Omojuwa (@Omojuwa) March 1, 2016
Rap is about Rhythm and Poetry. Olamide has rhythm. Poetry isn’t really something he focuses on. M.I Mode9 Vector do well in both.
— MusicGeneralNG (@MusicGeneralNG) March 1, 2016
People say Olamide is not a rapper and I’m like your fave Nigerian rapper doesn’t have a rap song as hard as Voice Of The Street.
— Mayowa George (@Wana____) March 1, 2016
Olamide is GOOD!!! No doubt bout that.
Comparing him to MI Abaga…. (In Orubebe’s voice) Noooooooo!!!! we won’t take that. 😮😰
— Véèktöh (@Elnas007) March 1, 2016
ice prince’s oleku, jagz god on d mic,MI’s action film,Phyno’s man of d year and Baddo’s Voice of the street are naija’s greatest rap songs.
— Mr adeayo (@mr_aystyles) March 1, 2016
When it comes to music…. whether rap or nah…. I’ll still pick Jesse jagz over olamide
— King Mobolaji (@BJFreshchild) March 1, 2016
Iwó ja 😂 RT @El_swaGz: Olamide is a rapper. He just does other genres too. You won’t say Drake ain’t a rapper cos he sings a lot.
— Olamide Adedeji (@olamide_YBNL) March 1, 2016
Ion even know bruh 😂 RT @Ximena_Naija: I thought MI was the person that released mix tape? Why is Olamide trending ??💪💪💪
— Olamide Adedeji (@olamide_YBNL) March 1, 2016
M.I , vector, jesse jagz define rap music in naija……..the rest just pour dust constantly
— #RASHFORDian (@glynx7) March 1, 2016
While you people are arguing over MI or Jesse Jagz who’s greater, I’m just envying their mother’s womb. She made legends.. #Facts
— Lota Chukwu Elixir (@LotaElixir) March 1, 2016
Talk of lyricists, On my list, it’s MI, Mode9, Vector, Phenom, Phyno.
— Phantom (@femoPhantom) March 1, 2016
We should just leave Olamide as indigenous rapper .. He has admitted he is a local rapper leave MI, Vector ,Modo, Jesse as “Oyinbo Rappers”
— #KimaniOffAir (@cutekimani) March 1, 2016
Putting Ycee on your top 10 list ahead of mode9,vector,boogey,MI shows you don’t know anything about rap music
— Fanta Boi (@davidoghe) March 1, 2016
Still Thank God for the likes of Modenine, MI, Vector, Boogey and Jesse Jagz. If not for these guys rap music wud have been completely dead
— Jamie (@KingJamez_) March 1, 2016
People that believe Ice Prince is a better rapper than Vector are part of the major problems we have in this generation 👏
— #TweeterRadio (@ThePunAddict) March 1, 2016
Most criticize Vector for weak or forced punchlines meanwhile on Chairman album MI had some very weak lines but if u talk u r a ‘hater’
— Uncle Jargo (@ifeanyi_oka4) March 1, 2016
I stopped being a fan since voice of the street! Olamide stopped rapping ever since then.
— Kamso (@Jamie_Kamss97) March 1, 2016
Lol. MI is not even the best rapper in Nigeria ,we have lots of people that will body him hands down; Boogey ,Vector , Khali abdul, Loose K.
— oshrukugbemgbe™ (@TheUnbothered_) March 1, 2016
MI is the real chairman of Nigeria and Africa rap, followed by Vector and Jesse Jagz.
— George Atah (@abillidollz) March 1, 2016
But you would think it’s obvious Jesse Jagz is better lyrically than most Nigerian rappers.. If not all! Except Kyrian Asher ofcourse
— #LVGOUT !! (@OMGits_Supetra) March 1, 2016
That’s how someone got talking bout Olamide’s 2012 YBNL album.
Am sure he didn’t listen to ‘Talk Bout it’ and ‘MI 2’.
— Véèktöh (@Elnas007) March 1, 2016
Who has a rap album or mixtape that can touch Talk About It or Illegal Music 1? Probably Eldee, Mode 9 and Jagz. That ends the argument
— Ogbeni Cash (@IamPattern) March 1, 2016
Bcus of that factory 78 freestyle you think YCEE is the best? Smh. Even underground rappers like Syko, Boogey, PayBack are better lyricists
