Falz delivered a standout opening moment at the 9th edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) on Sunday night, combining hosting duties with a lively musical performance that set the tone for the prestigious ceremony.
Taking to the stage as one of the hosts, Falz kicked off the event with a short performance of two of his hit records, including his 2017 fan-favourite “La Fête,” instantly energising the audience inside the venue.
Falz hosted the highly anticipated awards ceremony alongside French-Senegalese actress Liliane Maroune, forming a strong and exciting duo that truly represented AFRIMA’s pan-African spirit.
With this role, Falz became the second Nigerian to host AFRIMA, following music legend 2Baba, who anchored the maiden edition of the awards in 2014. Organisers described Falz as “one of Africa’s most respected figures in music and film,” highlighting his sharp lyricism, commanding stage presence, and fearless social commentary qualities that translated seamlessly into his performance and hosting on the night.
His co-host, Liliane Maroune, added international flair and elegance to the ceremony. The actress is widely known for her roles in popular West African television series such as Emprises and Coeurs Brisés, and is celebrated for her versatility and strong screen presence, which complemented Falz’s charisma on stage.
Beyond the hosting highlights, the night also belonged to Rema, who emerged as the biggest winner of the ceremony, with three awards to his name.
