Rapper Falz and Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde have spoken out, urging leaders and citizens to take responsibility for Nigeria’s future as insecurity and political tension continue to worry the country.
Falz, recently criticised both the government and Christian leaders following the killing of many residents in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, an attack that reportedly claimed dozens of lives.
In a video shared on Instagram, Falz expressed frustration over what he described as the government’s weak response to repeated attacks across the country. He questioned why, after so many deaths, official reactions are often limited to statements of sympathy, with little information about arrests or justice for victims. Although President Bola Tinubu later deployed an army battalion to the area, Falz said such actions often come too late.
Falz also accused some Christian leaders of failing their followers. He said many religious leaders encourage people to rely only on prayer while allowing politicians to use church platforms to campaign, even when those same politicians are linked to poor governance and insecurity. According to Falz, religious leaders should do more to educate members about important political issues, such as laws that affect free and fair elections, instead of offering only spiritual solutions.
“What are our so-called religious leaders doing for the people at times like this?” he asked.
Sharing similar concerns, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde spoke about the kind of leadership Nigeria needs as the 2027 general elections approach. In an interview on Channels Television, she said Nigeria has great potential but lacks strong leadership and proper enforcement of laws.
“Nigeria is a very blessed country,” she said. “But without the rule of law, any country can fall apart. Change must start from the top.” She added that Nigeria needs selfless leaders willing to make sacrifices for the people, pointing to the late Ghanaian leader Jerry Rawlings as an example of bold and principled leadership.
Omotola also raised concerns about ethnic discrimination during elections, saying she witnessed voters being chased away because of their tribe during the 2023 general elections and was threatened for standing up for them. Describing herself as a true Nigerian with ties across different regions, she stressed the importance of unity.
“Nigeria is a beautiful country,” she said. “We all bring something to the table.”
