On April 9, 2013, Nigeria’s premier gospel music award show, the Music and Entertainment Gospel Awards was unveiled.
According to coordinator, Femi Akintunde-Johnson, the project was established to ‘recognize and celebrate outstanding performances and exemplary talents in Nigerian gospel music community, involving Nigerians both within the country and outside’.
Organizers say the vision of the awards is ‘To honour and celebrate the best Nigerian talents in the service of humanity and exultation of the Almighty’. The awards is billed to hold on November 9, 2013.
The awards which will be produced by Footprints Ventures, an event management outfit (organisers of past awards like FMA, THEMA, AMEN and Reel Awards), has also received the backing of long time gospel singer Timi ‘Telemi’ Orokoya and the Gospel Musicians’ Association of Nigeria (GOMAN).
A 12-man main organising committee has also been set up and consists of:
