An external columnist with The Punch, Shina Oyetayo, who was whisked away by unknown gun men in front of his residence on College road Ogba, Lagos at about 10:30 pm on May 2, 2012, has been released, and his car found.
The writer’s friend, Femi Davies tells us; ‘It is true, his wife called me and told me everything. And for hours, we were not able to reach him as his phones are switched off. About an hour later, we received yet another message that the robbers dropped him off in Ijoko Ota area of Ogun state and left with his Black Toyota Camry car; Reg number LA 632 KJA.‘
NET spoke with the journalist, who relayed his encounter ‘I was coming back from work at about 10:30, when I noticed a car tailing me. I stopped twice and they overtook me and I did as well but they still didn’t stop following me. I couldn’t speed because my neighbour’s car was in between and had to stop for my neighbour to go. My in-law already opened the gate for me but I didn’t go in just to be sure they were not after me. So I parked outside the compound, and that was how they entered my car and took me away. They were 5 in number and fully armed but I was lucky enough to be dropped at Ijoko. They didn’t beat me because I was gentle enough with them.‘
When asked if he suspected anyone he said ‘I am an entertainment reporter, I didn’t quarrel with any one and I’m not suspecting anyone. My iPad, laptop and other things that were in the car was taken away. I’m thankful to God for my life.‘
Oyetayo’s car was found this morning. According to his Wife Sandra Oyetayo, ‘The car was found somewhere in Oyo State this morning though valuables are gone, we just thank God for everything. We have not slept since yesterday; infact he is just eating, I thank God‘.
‘The police called us at about 10am this morning to tell us they have found the car. The car has a tracker; it was the tracker that led them to the destination.’
Adeshina Oyetayo writes E-punch, an entertainment column for The Punch Newspaper every Friday.
