An exhibition celebrating photography by Yetunde Ayeni-Babaeko tagged ‘Eko Moves’ is set to begin on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at the Wheatbaker, Onitolo off Gerrard, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The exhibition, sponsored by Deutsche Bank, The Wheatbaker and Ruinart, features dance by the Society for the Performing Arts of Nigeria (SPAN), and is scheduled to run till February 15, 2015.
According to organisers, ‘Eko Moves’ is a body of work that touches on the very heartbeat of creativity in the vibrant, ever enfolding city of Lagos.
It is a visual chronicle of a two-year journey by photographer Yetunde Ayeni-Babaeko through a city of contradictions, capturing an insatiable propulsion to keep moving, expanding and progressing.
The Germany-trained fashion photographer challenged the professional dancers of leading dance group, SPAN to leave the comfort of their mirrored studios, walk away from the safety of expertly lit stages, and dance through the markets, the bus stops, the beaches, the under-bridge-spaces, the water highways and shanty towns of Lagos for the people of Eko.
And the result is part of the riveting ‘Eko Moves.’
