Five years ago, we hit the newspaper market, determined to carve a niche for ourselves in entertainment journalism.
This was predicated on our commitment to responsibly cover and report events and happenings in the industry, hold the truth as sacrosanct all the time and pursue the development of the Nigerian entertainment scene and fulfilment of its potentials.
April 26, 2010 was the day the Nigerian Entertainment Today hit the streets and over the last five years, we have weathered the storms through determination, commitment and hard work, and stayed true to our values.
At inception, the idea was to create a voice for the entertainment world; bring you the news – fresh, hot and juicy without fear or favour. That was our bond and we have kept that promise in the last 5 years.
The Nigerian Entertainment Today has created a veritable platform for stakeholders and elevated to greater heights, entertainment journalism, thus becoming a medium that cannot be ignored.
In line with our determination to make a difference, we instituted the Nigerian Entertainment Conference, (NEC), three years ago. It was the first of its kind in the country and the aim was to set agenda for the entertainment scene and chart the way forward for all sections of the entertainment playground. This, we have done successfully since its inception and we are not ready to rest.
NECLive topic this year is ‘Buying and Selling Nigerian Entertainment and everything in-between’ and the conference is providing a platform for individuals and companies, to show the world what they are about once more as we engage each other. We will be dwelling more on what practitioners have done in the past, using case studies to deliver presentations everyone can learn from.
One year ago, during our 4th Anniversary, we did tell our readers to watch out for how we’ll fare in the following 12 months. Here we are, 12 months have since passed. Between then and now, how has NET actually performed?
A lot has transpired in the entertainment world since our last anniversary and we believe we have lived up to our reputation of always being at forefront of fearless, unbiased and responsible coverage of the Nigerian entertainment scene, bringing you earth-shaking stories as they unfold.
In terms of highlights, the beef between Davido and Wizkid, debt allegations levelled against D’Banj; Tiwa Savage’s wedding and pregnancy, unveiling of Omawumi’s baby daddy; Headies 2014, 10th anniversary of AMAA and the just concluded Nigeria 2015 elections as it concerns celebs have been the biggest events.
And in all of these, we brought you blow-by-blow accounts in our usual detailed, yet easy-to-read, free-flowing, entertaining and engaging style. Of course, we know a lot remains to be done and we stay committed.
