Ebuka’s unofficial last name is ‘Big Brother’, and it is no surprise to hear his fans refer to him as “Ebuka Big Brother”. The reality TV show was where Nigerians were first introduced to his charm.
Ebuka Obi-Uchendu was a housemate on the first-ever edition of the show, known as ‘Big Brother Nigeria’. He was one of the more popular housemates in the show and was well-positioned to take home the grand prize. But he finished the show in eighth place. Katung Aduwak won.
Following his appearance on the show, He transitioned into a well-rounded, insightful TV host and compere. He has gone on to host several shows, including Glo Show, Friend or Foe on NTA, The Spot on Ebonylife, Rubbin’ Minds on Channels TV, and several others.
In 2017, the Big Brother franchise returned to Nigeria, rebranding as Big Brother Naija and Ebuka was poised to take centre-stage as the host. Since then, he has gone on to host every single one of them. He has also been confirmed to host the 2021 edition of the biggest reality TV show in the country, and the world’s most successful Big Brother Franchise.
Ebuka also features Judging Matters, a real-life courtroom series that displays everyday Nigerians getting their cases heard and resolved by a judge. His legal background made him a perfect fit for the Judge Judy-like show.
In 2019, he won the NET Honours ‘Most Searched Media Personality’ award. He followed it up with the 2020 NET Honours People’s Choice award for ‘Most Popular Media Personality’ and was nominated in the ‘Most Searched Media Personality’ award category. He was also recognised as the most influential Big Brother Naija housemate of all time. He emerges as the most popular media personality in the NET Honours Class of 2021.
