US rock multi-instrumentalist and actor Levon Helm has passed away at the age of 71 after a long battle with throat cancer.
Reports say the famous drummer who is known for hits like ‘The Weight’ passed away last night at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre in New York.
Helms who is credited to forming the acclaimed and influential roots rock group The Band was diagnosed with throat cancer in the late 90s.
He won 3 Grammys for his solo work in the last 4 years. In 2008, The Band received the Grammys’ Lifetime Achievement Award.
Helms left behind a wife and daughter.
