It was a rap beef that made waves round the world as Drake and Meek Mill battled it out for bragging rights and respect.
Now, nearly five months after, countless memes, and a Grammy nomination later, the producer of ‘Back to Back’ is speaking out for the first time about how the diss track came to be.
In a recent interview with Complex, Jahmar ‘Daxz’ Carter said that he submitted the beat to Drake at 6 p.m. on July 28. Six hours later, he hit the studio for the first time and saw a focused Drizzy penning the infamous cut.
According to Daxz; ‘They told me they were making the track right there, and within an hour he dropped it on SoundCloud,’ he said.
‘It was 5 a.m., and he just dropped it. It all happened in the same day.’
‘Around the time they were finishing up the track at 4 a.m, I was sitting in the studio like, ’Is this sh*t really gonna go down right now? Are we just gonna drop this randomly out of nowhere?’ he said.
‘I didn’t take it in completely until the drive home, and when I got home, the entire Internet was going crazy.’
Fast forward to present-day and ‘Back to Back’ is currently in the running for Best Rap Performance at the 2016 Grammy Awards.
