At NECLive 2025, Dolapo Amusat, founder and CEO of We Talk Sound, highlighted the central role of communities in building sustainable creative ecosystems across Africa. He shared how he began developing a community nine years ago while in university and gradually expanded it into a platform that now supports major players in the music and content industries. According to him, communities remain the bedrock of creativity because they shape how work is made, shared, and amplified.
Amusat noted that creatives who succeed often do so because they cultivate strong groups around their work. He referenced digital creator Hauwa Lawal as an example of someone who has built a community rooted in cultural insight and emotional resonance. Amusat argued that the future of Africa’s creative economy will be driven by networks of people who support and elevate one another.
Speaking during the NECLive panel on Powering Africa Through Creative Enterprise, Amusat encouraged young creators to build with intention and to anchor their content in authenticity. He added that global consumption will follow when creators remain true to their style while still aiming for international reach.
