In the aftermath the death of two young men, Olugbenga Abiodun and Chime Amaechi, both 23 years old and friends of Nigerian pop star Davido; the police in charge of the matter has disclosed to NET that only the state commissioner of police Imohinmi Edgal can speak on the matter.
Punch had earlier reported that initial police findings confirmed that drugs were recovered from the death scene, a claim Chime Amaechi’s father denied when he spoke exclusively to us. ‘I spoke to the DPO of Ikoyi police station and he told me that no conclusion has been reached. They are carrying out an autopsy and we will see.’
When NET reached out to the said DPO, Mustapha Tijani, he said ‘I may not know if he (the commissioner) talked to them. But for me, I don’t really know. A lot of people are disturbing me. “Go and bring autopsy, go and bring autopsy…” But I know the commissioner cannot tell Punch that when the investigations are not complete yet. I know he won’t do that. I was with him all through yesterday. I now don’t know if after I left, he spoke to Punch. Even myself I cannot say that until the autopsy’s complete. How can somebody categorically say that?’
Similarly, the Public Relations Officer of the Police Force SP Dolapo Badmus said she could not comment on the issue when we got in touch with her. ‘No you have to the commissioner if it’s on that Davido issue. You need to talk to the commissioner, he’s on top of it.’
Till now, calls made to the commissioner have not been successful with the line unanswered or not reachable.
